The nurseries situated within the Parish of St Helier, namely Westmount and Avranches day nurseries, remained open, despite all schools closing on the island last week.
Westmount Nursery Manager, Val Payne, said “I have very dedicated staff who make every effort to get to work…Westmount remained open as normal all of last week and has done so for the last 20 years since I have worked here”.
As many of the parents of the children who attend the nursery work at the hospital, shops, offices and finance industry it was vital that the nurseries stayed open to enable them to get to work, particularly to support the hospital staff.
