Summer restrictions for dogs are once again in force on Jersey beaches.

The restrictions mean that if you take your dog(s) on the beach between the hours of 10.30am and 6pm they must be kept on a lead.  Horses may not be ridden on the beach between these hours.

The Policing of Beaches Regulations were amended in 1989 to restrict dogs and horses on the beaches between 1 May and 30 September.

Chairman of the Comité des Connétables, Ken Vibert, said: 'The Connétables wish to remind dog owners, in particular, of the law and that they must ensure their dog is kept on a lead if on the beach between 10.30am and 6pm.  Dog owners must also clean up after their dog and this applies not only to all beaches but also to parks and other public areas, including roads and pavements.  All the Connétables receive complaints about dog faeces, and owners must clean up after their dogs and dispose of the litter in one of the many waste receptables provided around the Island.  It is also an offence to dispose of plastic bags containing dog faeces other than in a waste receptable.  A fine of up to £500 can be imposed on those who do not clean up after their dog.
