The Polling Station for district 1 in St Helier will no longer be at St James Centre. For the forthcoming By Election on 16 June the Assembly Room at the Town Hall will be used for the first time in many years.
Due to concerns with public safety it was decided that the move was unavoidable, leaving the Parish with the problem of finding an alternative venue. The Town Hall was considered the only other viable option but it's acknowledged that it's not without its drawbacks.
The Town Hall ceased to become a Polling Station some years ago due to being situated in the far west of the district. Voters living the other end of the district, Havre des Pas and La Route du Fort areas for example, face an inconvenient trek in order to cast their valued vote. However, the move is deemed an absolute necessity if the Parish is to ensure the safety of its parishioners, something the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, places at the very top of his list of priorities.
The other 3 Polling Stations remain unchanged and the full list is as follows:
District 1 - The Assembly Room, Town Hall, Seale Street
District 2 - The Blue Room, Springfield Stadium, Janvrin Road
District 3 - Rouge Bouillon School, Brighton Road
District (3) 4 - First Tower School, St Aubins Road
All Polling Stations will be open between 08:00 and 20:00.
