Dear Householder
Important Announcement - Changes to Waste Collection in the Parish of St Helier
The current Waste Management operations have been reviewed to improve efficiency and incorporate a new recycling scheme. The collections will now be undertaken on a zoned basis, which means that each area of the Parish will have a dedicated refuse crew. All properties are entitled to one collection of domestic waste per week.
Start Date
The revised
refuse
collections will start on the
28th February 2011
and may involve a change of collection day. (You will be notified by letter if your collection day changes).
Recycling
A new fortnightly recycling scheme will be rolled out in phases over a period of several months. The scheme will be voluntary and will not affect the frequency of ordinary refuse collections. Householders without the space to store recyclables will be able to use the new communal recycling points which it is planned to introduce around the Parish in the coming year.
We will be collecting Cardboard, Paper, Plastic Bottles, Drinks Cans and Food Cans from domestic properties in the Parish. Bags will be provided for the storage and collection of recyclables; the bags have been trialled during our pilot scheme at La Pouquelaye and have been shown to be a success. The Recycling collection will take place every other week but on the same day as the refuse collection.
A further letter will be sent to you to give details of the start date of the recycling scheme in your area.
In the meantime please continue with your existing arrangements. Please do not stockpile recyclables while waiting for the scheme to start but use the recycling facilities provided by the Transport & Technical Services Department at various locations around the Parish.
