The Parish of St Helier is pleased to announce that the retail vacancy rate has reduced for Quarter 2 of 2021, which is approximately half the rate in the UK.
The vacancy rate is a measure of how many shop premises are empty compared with those that are trading. The rate in St Helier is currently 7.66% compared with the UK average of 14.5%.
The Parish, in partnership with Jersey Business, produces a quarterly report to give an accurate picture of the town’s vacancy rates in comparison to the UK. This report was first created in Q2 2020, and all reports are on the Jersey Business website in the retail section, to be accessed at any time.
Please see below the link to our latest report for Q2 2021, released today, in line with the UK’s comparative data by the British Retail Consortium: http://www.jerseybusiness.je/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Vacancy-Rate-Q2-2021-report-.pdf.
Town Centre and Events Manager, Connor Burgher, said: “I’m pleased to see the vacancy rate reduce once more. It is yet more evidence that retailers have confidence in the St Helier town centre. Many of the properties listed as vacant are currently going through redevelopment, so I’m confident that figure will continue to fall in the coming months and years.”
