The lighting of the Jersey Beacon (the most southerly beacon in the British Isles), which is part of a national project for lighting 1000 beacons across the British Isles, will take place at Les Landes Racecourse at 7pm on Sunday 11th November. The beacon will be set alight from a torch due to begin its journey in the Royal Square as dusk descends on Armistice Day and will then travel through every parish, carried by motorcyclists of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch.
More than 6,290 Islanders, including those of French descent, fought in the Great War, 862 of whom were killed.
There will be music by The L is M Band and dancing for those who want it, together with food and hot drinks available to purchase.
