Celebrating 35 Years - Festival Weekend.
Fifty years ago a collection of poetry called The Mersey Sound was published, with work from Roger McGough, Brian Patten and Adrian Henri. It was hugely popular (a poetry anthology selling 500,000 is unusual, even if you are Seamus Heaney), and the accessibility of the poems helped create an environment for performance poetry that still endures. As a tribute, a gang of local poets have been dragged from their desks to create similarly accessible verses inspired by that collection. Featuring readings from The Mersey Sound, original material from Island poets including Linda Rose Parkes, Geraint Jennings and Nicky Mesch, and a quick discussion on why song lyrics are almost always dreadful when stripped of their musical backing.
